Ingredients:
-
1 premade double pie crust (or your favourite homemade crust if you're a baking baddie)
-
6 cups thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best)
-
3/4 cup sugar
-
2 tbsp flour
-
1 tsp cinnamon
-
1/4 tsp nutmeg
-
1/4 tsp salt
-
1 tbsp lemon juice
-
1 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
-
Optional: handful of grated cheese
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate and press gently into the edges.
3. In a large bowl, mix apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice until well-coated.
4. Pour the apple mixture into the crust-lined pie plate and dot with butter pieces. If adding grated cheese (adds a richer flavor) sprinkle over mixture before step 5.
5. Cover with the second crust, trim any excess, and crimp the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust for venting.
6. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil.
7. Let the pie cool slightly before serving, and enjoy!
